ADVANCED OPEN WATER

Description

Exploration, excitement, and experiences, that's what the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about. You don't have to be "advanced" to do it. It's designed to advance your diving, so you can start immediately once you've earned your PADI Open Water Diver certification. The course helps you build confidence and expand your diving skills through different Adventure Dives. You try different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. You log dives and develop skills while finding new ways to have fun diving.

Who should take this course?

PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers who are at least 12 years old are ready to take the plunge and enroll in an Advanced Open Water Diver course. Junior divers can only participate in selected Adventure Dives - ask your PADI Instructor.

If you are already an Adventure Diver, you only need to complete two more Adventure Dives to earn the Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

Academic

Sign up for Advanced Open Water Diver Online - PADI's eLearning option - to get started immediately. You study at your own pace, through an interactive and easy-to-use program. You'll also have access to the online version of the Advanced Open Water Diver manual and can complete sections of other Adventure Dives as directed by your PADI Instructor.

You may also choose to read the Advanced Open Water Diver manual. Your PADI Instructor will meet with you to schedule knowledge review sessions in conjunction with Adventure Dives.

You'll plan your learning schedule with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. There are two mandatory dives - Deep and Underwater Navigation - and you'll choose the other three for a total of five dives.

During the Deep Adventure Dive, you'll learn how to plan dives and to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of diving deeper. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive polishes your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using finning cycles, visual references, and time.

Other knowledge and skills which you'll acquire, will vary with your interests and the adventures you have - photography, buoyancy control, fish identification, exploring wrecks and much more.

Equipment

In addition to using basic scuba gear, you'll need a compass and a dive knife or dive tool. You will also use specialized equipment depending on the Adventure Dives you choose. Your PADI Instructor will explain the equipment you need and may suggest additional equipment, such as a dive light for night diving or a lift bag for search and recovery diving.
